Sixth Form Admissions
Admission to WGS Sixth Form
Whole School Open Events – Thursday 7th November and Saturday 9th November
Our Sixth Form Open Evening has now taken place but we encourage girls who are interested in joining the Withington Sixth Form in September 2020 to come along to one of our whole school Open Events in November when you will have the opportunity to see every corner of the School and speak to subject staff and pupils.
Please let us know if you would like to attend one of the above events by completing our Open Day Booking Form or call our Admissions Office on 0161 249 3371. (There is no need to sign up again if you attended the Sixth Form Open Evening.)
The Sixth Form Admissions Process
Spaces are limited in Withington’s Sixth Form and pupils who wish to apply for a Sixth Form place should consider participating in the pre-application/preliminary interview process if, after visiting the School, they know the A-Level subjects they wish to study and that their predicted GCSE grades meet Withington’s minimum entry requirements (see below).
The deadline to provide the information required to participate in the preliminary interviews is Friday 15th November 2019. The preliminary interviews will take place during the weeks commencing 25th November and 2nd December 2019.
Based on the outcome of the preliminary interviews, some candidates will be invited to apply for a Sixth Form place in September 2020. On receipt of an application, a reference will be sought from the prospective student’s current school and they will be invited to a second interview from the week commencing Monday 2nd March 2020.
Applicants will be notified of the the outcome of the Sixth Form admissions process by Friday 27th March 2020.
We may not be in a position to accept further Sixth Form applications until we know the outcome of the first two rounds of interviews. The decision to accept further applications may be determined by the availability of places on the A-Level courses the candidate wishes to take.
Please call our Admissions Officer, Ms Jane Ellis, on 0161 249 3371 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss Sixth Form admissions.
The requirement for girls wishing to enter the Sixth Form from another school is a minimum of six 7-9 grades at GCSE, with 8-9 grades in the subjects you wish to study.
If, on GCSE Results Day, the required grades have been attained, pupils holding conditional offers are asked to inform us, upon which they will be invited into school to bring in their GCSE results and collect a Welcome pack.
If you are prepared to take advantage of all the opportunities on offer at Withington, you would have the very best chance of achieving great A-Level results, enabling you to take the next steps to realise your hopes and ambitions for the future.
Our academic results speak for themselves. Withington is one of the top dozen gateways for entry into Britain’s best universities and you would be joining a friendly, vibrant and supportive community while benefiting from excellent teaching and the school’s well-established track record in supporting pupils through their university applications process.
