Admissions Timetable

We thank you for your interest in Withington Girls’ School as a future school option for your daughter. We run our admissions on a yearly cycle, with applications accepted from early August of the year before the intended point of entry.

Admissions for September 2021

It may still be possible to accept applications to join Year 3 in September 2021. Please contact our Admissions Officer, Ms Jane Ellis, on admissions@wgs.org in the first instance.

Admissions for September 2022

The entrance procedure varies depending on your daughter’s age. Below is an overview of key dates for September 2022:

We very much hope that it will be possible to invite prospective parents and pupils into School later this year, but be assured, we will adapt to the prevailing circumstances and present our Open Events virtually, if necessary.

Year 7 (11+) Entry for September 2022

Autumn Term visits We will contact parents of prospective pupils who have expressed an interest in a school visit and tour with any opportunities to visit. Parents of prospective pupils are also warmly invited to contact us at any time at admissions@wgs.org or by completing our enquiry form to register their interest in applying for a Year 7 place in September 2022 or to request information about the Admissions process.
September / October 2021
We usually invite prospective Year 7 pupils to Withington in Action events in the first half of the Autumn Term. We encourage parents who are interested in learning more about a Withington education to complete our enquiry form or contact our Admission team on 0161 249 3371 or by email at admissions@wgs.org . We will keep in contact with all parents interested in Year 7 admissions in 2022 about any forthcoming opportunities to visit the School.
Before October Half Term
Make sure we have your contact details (enquiry form) so that we can keep you informed of admissions arrangements and opportunities to visit Withington during the second half of the Autumn term.
November 2021
Our Whole School Open Events are usually held in November. The dates will be published in the 2021 Summer Term.
December 2021
The deadline for submitting applications for Year 7 places for September 2022 will be in the first week of December. Applications for Bursary assistance would need to be submitted a week later.

Please note that we are not able to accept applications for Bursary assistance submitted after the Entrance Examination has taken place.

Before the end of the Autumn Term Details of the Entrance Exam Day will be sent out to parents.
January /February 2022
Year 7 Entrance Examinations usually take place in early January.  Within 10 days of the Examination Day, parents are advised whether or not their daughter will be invited to attend for interview. Offers are usually sent out towards the end of February.
March 2022
Parents would normally respond to offers on a date set in early March. This date will be the same for almost all the independent schools in Greater Manchester.
June 2022

Junior School Entry for Year 3 (7+), Year 4 (8+) and Year 5 (9+) pupils for September 2022

November 2021

Applications to sit the Junior School Entrance Assessment in January should be submitted by the second week in December.
Before the end of the Autumn Term Details of the Entrance Assessment Day will be sent out to parents.
January 2022
The Junior School Entrance Assessment Day is usually on a Saturday in mid-January. Parents are then contacted within two weeks by phone or letter to confirm the outcome of the Entrance Assessments.

Those families receiving an offer of a place for their daughter have three weeks in which to respond to Offer Letters.

June 2022

September Your daughter starts her Junior School years at Withington.

Year 12 (16+) for September 2022

Places in Withington’s Sixth Form are limited and prospective students who wish to apply should consider registering their interest in participating in the Sixth Form preliminary interview process during late November/early December. We recommend this route for girls who know their A Level subject choices and whose predicted grades meet our entry requirements (a minimum of six 7-9 grades at GCSE, with 8-9 grades in the subjects you wish to study). Based on the outcome of this interview, some candidates will be invited to make an application, after which a second interview would take place in March 2022. The first round of conditional offers would be made by 30th March 2022. Sixth Form enquiries made after 15th November 2021 may not be taken forward until we know the outcome of the preliminary interviews at the earliest, or possibly until the outcome of the first round of conditional offers is known.

October 2021
Sixth Form Information Evening for external applicants and current WGS Year 11s. The date will be published in Summer 2021.
Before October Half Term Make sure you have registered your interest in coming along to one of our Whole School Open Events in November.

Consider participating in the preliminary interview process if you know your A Level subject choices and your predicted GCSE grades meet WGS minimum entry requirements*

*The requirement for pupils wishing to enter the Sixth Form from another school is a minimum of six 7-9 grades at GCSE, with 8-9 grades in the subjects you wish to study to A Level.

November 2021
Whole School Open Evening and Morning. All external Sixth Form applicants are encouraged to come along to a whole school open event when they will get many chances to have a good look around and chat to teaching staff.
Mid November onwards
Information required to participate in the preliminary interview process should be provided.

Prospective students who provide the information required by this deadline, meet our entry requirements and whose subject choices we can accommodate, will be offered a preliminary interview. Based on the outcome of this interview, which you will know by mid December, some candidates will be invited to submit a full application and attend a formal / second interview in March. A first round of offers will be made by 30th March.

August 2022
Contact School to confirm GCSE results
September 2022
Year 12 Induction Afternoon usually the day before the official start of term. Then, the first day of term will involve a Team Building and Activities Day involving the whole of the new Year 12, Head of Sixth Form and all Form Tutors.
