Admissions Timetable

The entrance procedure varies slightly depending on your daughter’s age. Below is an overview of key dates for Junior (Years 3 to 6), Year 7 (11+) and Sixth Form admissions in September 2020 and September 2021. We advise parents of prospective applicants to visit Withington Girls’ School before applying for a place at the School, either at one of our events listed below or by arranging an individual visit.

If you would like us to keep in touch with you about forthcoming events and register an early interest in applying, please complete our enquiry form.

Year 7 (11+) entries for September 2021

Exact event dates will be confirmed during May 2020, but we thought it might be useful to look ahead at the opportunities that will be available to see different aspects of our school from Summer Term 2020.

Your point of contact throughout the process is our Admissions Officer, Ms Jane Ellis, or 0161 249 3371. Please do not hesitate to get in touch at any time if you have any queries.

Summer Term visits Prospective parents and pupils are warmly invited to contact us at any time to request a visit during the school day in the Summer Term. Just contact Admissions to make arrangements.
September/ October 2020 Withington in Action Days: Parents of girls in Year 6 in September 2020 will be able to book themselves and their daughters onto one of two Withington in Action Days.  This is an opportunity to observe part of a typical School day here at WGS. Visitors will be guided around School by current pupils and will visit classrooms during lessons. You will also be able to meet the Headmistress and other senior members of staff and talk to our admissions team. Places are limited, and the registration process will open in September 2020.
November Open Events: Our whole school Open Events take place in early November and offer the opportunity to have a detailed look around the whole school, meet the Headmistress, the teaching staff and, most importantly, the pupils.

At the Open Days you will have the chance to sign up for a November Taster Day when your daughter will have the chance to spend a Saturday morning in School attending two different subject lessons.

December The closing date for Entrance Examination registrations will be in early December.
January/ February 2021 Senior School Entrance Examinations are in early January. From mid-January through to February half term, girls who have done especially well in the Entrance Examination will be invited for interview and, by the end of February, offers of places for September 2021 will be sent out.

JUNIOR SCHOOL (Years 3 – 6)

As we await the outcome of offers for our September 2020 intake, there remains some possibility of entry to Years 3 or 4 – please contact our Admissions Office on 0161 249 3371 to discuss availability.

Year 12 (16+)

* Places in Withington’s Sixth Form are limited and prospective students who wish to apply should consider registering their interest in participating in the Sixth Form preliminary interview process during late November/early December. We recommend this route for girls who know their A-Level subject choices and whose predicted grades meet our entry requirements (a minimum of six 7-9 grades at GCSE, with 8-9 grades in the subjects you wish to study). Based on the outcome of this interview, some candidates will be invited to make an application, after which a second interview would take place before 20th March 2020. The first round of conditional offers would be made by 27th March 2020. Sixth Form enquiries made after 15th November 2019 may not be taken forward until we know the outcome of the preliminary interviews at the earliest, or possibly until the outcome of the first round of conditional offers is known.

If you have any questions regarding the admissions process and events, please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Officer, Ms Jane Ellis, on 0161 249 3371 or
