Manchester Sings

Our exciting musical partnership, Manchester Sings, first took place in November 2019, involving 6 maintained partner primary schools from across Greater Manchester as well as our music department. The project brings together hundreds of children from across our region and pupils from our Senior school choir to perform as a massed choir. The children perform together after weeks of rehearsals at Manchester Cathedral.

In 2019, funds were raised for the Booth Centre and Wood Street Mission, both charity partners who we have enjoyed long-standing relationships with. Our Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Haslam, paid tribute to all involved in Manchester Sings. “Those who were fortunate enough to be in the audience were amazed that it was the very first time the pupils from the seven schools had performed the six songs together as a choir. We were expecting it to be a special performance, but the children exceeded even those expectations – they had memorised the words to all the songs and performed from the heart with such commitment. It was exceptional.”

We are delighted to announce that Manchester Sings will return on Wednesday 24 November 2021. Tickets are available now!

Working closely with seven local schools, the initiative brings together children from across our region and pupils from our specially-convened Manchester Sings Choir to perform as a massed choir. Whilst it’s currently unclear if the event will be virtual or in-person, it will be led by Mrs Gilly Sargent, Director of Music, who will be rehearsing with the partner school children in the first half of the Autumn Term in preparation for the final showcase. Withington’s singers began rehearsing and learning the songs during the Summer Term, so preparations are already very much underway!
