Transport
Transport to and from the school is an important issue for our parents/guardians and pupils, the majority of whom live more than 5km away. We have taken a proactive approach in this area and are committed to providing sustainable travel and a range of transport options.
Travel by bus or public transport
Parents/guardians should contact bus companies directly to book seats.
Please note that pupils should arrive at bus stops at least 5 minutes prior to the pick-up time stated. All timings are dependent on traffic conditions.
Bus services are available from the following locations:
City Centre Shuttle Bus
The City Centre Shuttle Bus connected Withington pupils with the major travel links in Manchester.
Whether your daughter travels into Manchester by train or tram, or you work in the city centre and would find it more convenient to drop your daughter off at one of Manchester’s mainline stations, this could be the perfect service for you. Many girls come in from places such as Bolton, Bury, Whitefield and Warrington and connect with the Shuttle with the greatest of ease. The Shuttle bus then drops them directly at the school gates.
The Shuttle Bus late service operates Monday to Friday at 5.15pm to fit in with after-school activities. Termly and ‘Flexi’ passes are available, along with single and day return tickets for ad hoc use.
Travel by Bicycle
A small number of pupils and a regular group of staff cycle to school each day. We are able to provide covered cycle storage and were fortunate to obtain a grant of matched funding from Sustrans providing additional storage.
Travel by Car
A number of parents choose to drop their daughters off on their way to work in the morning and use a bus service in the afternoon. We are able to help parents who wish to car-share, either in the morning or the afternoon.
Collection and drop-off points for school buses have been carefully planned to minimise inconvenience to local residents and to ensure the safety of our pupils. We would like to thank all parents/guardians for their cooperation in driving and parking safely and would be grateful for continued support in this regard.
