Kea’s Story
Kea, Head Girl 2019-20, and one of Withington’s Bursary Ambassadors, knows only too well what it feels like to face the potential of leaving Withington due to a change in her family’s financial circumstances.
Kea’s mother, Paula also describes her feelings at that time:
“I do remember having that conversation with Kea and her saying, ‘What if I have to leave my friends? Where am I going to go?’
I was very stressed about it, very worried. I went from a nurse’s salary onto ESA (Employment Support Allowance). I was in touch with the school and they were very kind. At no point was I made to feel bad about myself because I was unable to give financially.
I was encouraged to apply for a bursary and eventually we were awarded 100% support. I was ecstatic! We are a very close family and we were just so happy that Kea would be able to stay on at Withington through the Senior School.”
Will you help to support others like Kea, whose family circumstances have changed, by making a gift to the Bursary Fund today?
