Withington secures Erasmus+ grant

The School is delighted to have been awarded a substantial grant from Erasmus+, a programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Withington secured the grant on the basis of a proposal that around 30 staff from across the school community would take part in separate, week-long immersion courses in France, Italy, Spain or Germany.

Head of French, Mrs Yorke Menzies, the school lead on the project, explained: “In bidding for this funding, our goal was to promote life-long learning within the school community while raising the profile of language learning and its benefits. We hope to demonstrate that languages are not just the reserve of the Modern Foreign Languages Department but can become more embedded into the life and culture of the school as participants work together across departments to create meaningful cross-curricular links.

“We look forward to sharing our adventures and experiences with pupils and staff en français, auf Deutsch, in italiano, en español!”

Withington’s Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Haslam, said: “As a school we believe in the benefits that language study and immersion in another culture can bring. The Erasmus+ funding will enable a cross-section of staff from all departments to build their skills and cultural knowledge, and the aim is to share the benefits of these experiences as broadly as possible across the Withington community for the benefit of our pupils.”
