Lake District Afternoon Tea

On Wednesday 25th April the Development Team visited the Lake District for an afternoon tea reunion with alumnae living in the area. The last time we visited the Lakes was as part of our 125th anniversary celebrations back in 2015, and it was great that so many of those who attended back then joined us again this time.

The setting for our reunion was the stunning Lindeth Howe Hotel in Bowness on Windemere. The sunny spring weather made the event even more enjoyable, as it afforded stunning views of the lake and surrounding fells- the perfect backdrop for the occasion.

It was wonderful to see over 20 guests in attendance, ranging in age from Class of 1999 to 1944. Representing Withington at the event was Toni Leden (Development Director), Penny Knipe (Development Officer) and Mrs Haslam, who spoke of the exciting new developments that have taken place at Withington over the last few years. Also in attendance was Miss Hulme, former Withington Headmistress and Diane Hawkins (nee Hutton, Class of 1975) who is the alumnae representative on the Withington Board of Governors.

Guests spent the afternoon in a beautiful Beatrix Potter-themed room enjoying tea and scones, reminiscing on their school days, sharing memories and viewing the many old photos and archived newsletters that had been provided for reference.

Miss Moneypenny, Class of 1950, wrote to us about the event saying: “It was a pleasure to sit next Miss Hulme, former Headmistress, who came to Withington after I left. I was very impressed with the new Headmistress, Mrs Haslam, and with all she said, which completely embodied the Withington tradition and ethos.”
