Strawberry Serenade

Ad Lucem – a play on words. Arranged and devised by Director of Music, Mrs Gilly Sargent and directed by Mrs Kathryn Williams, this was a story of four Withingtonians getting caught in a storm, washed down a drainpipe and finding themselves enjoying an undersea adventure. Upper II girls delivered a script that unfolded the story with lines that were each verbatim lyrics from popular songs.

Over 100 different songs were sampled and Upper II were accompanied by each of the other Junior classes performing their own dance dressed as undersea creatures such as turtles, jellyfish, clown fish and octopi. Each Junior teacher choreographed their own Form group’s dance and costumes were designed by Miss Liz Jenkins. The String Ensemble gave a rousing performance of the Hornpipe and the Steel Pan group gave an enthusiastic performance of Under the Sea.

A whole new level of special effects was delivered by Performing Arts Technicians Joe Walsh and Charlotte Pang – video clips, smoke, rain, thunder, lightning, you name it! Delicious strawberry shortcakes and fruit punch were served by the School Catering Team in the Hub at interval with additional ambience and entertainment provided by the Junior Choir.

It was a lovely, bright, happy show demonstrating a superb team effort from Junior girls and staff alike.
