Supporting Bursaries | Withington Girls' School, Manchester

Supporting Bursaries

We are proud that, at Withington, one-in-six of our pupils are supported with a means-tested bursary, through the Marjorie Hulme Bursary Fund. Made possible by the generosity of Withington alumnae, parents and friends, like you.

Because of this support, girls are able create their own Withington memories and shine in an outstanding educational environment as they prepare to make their own mark on the world.

Former Headmistress, Miss Hulme, was instrumental in launching the first bursary appeal in 1976 in response to the impending abolition of the Direct Grant Scheme. The Fund now bearing her name is integral to our school, creating a warm community centred on equality and opportunity, irrespective of a pupil’s race, religion, social background and financial situation.

“To the people who have helped me by funding my bursary, I can’t thank you enough. Your generosity has allowed me to accomplish things I never thought I’d achieve and make some of my closest friends.”

Grace, Former Pupil & Bursary Ambassador

Over the years, countless pupils have benefitted from all that a Withington education has to offer, and have gone on to flourish in their chosen professions.

Our aim is to increase provision to support one-in-five pupils. You can help to transform educational experiences and future opportunities for yet more girls in the future.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully explain what having a bursary meant to me but I can promise you that, should you choose to give a child the same opportunity that the bursary fund gave me, it won’t be wasted.”
