Sixth Form Life

“One of the best things about Sixth Form has been the common room community we have as a whole year group, rather than just as forms.”

Mahnoor, Class of 2024

With a personalised timetable, you’ll study in small classes with like-minded individuals who share your academic passions. Not to mention the myriad of exciting extra-curricular opportunities available.

You’ll immediately find a strong sense of community here – where staff and students work in harmony, where there’s no uniform, and where you’ll socialise in dedicated Sixth Form spaces, such as the common room and bistro.

Approximately 85 students are in each Sixth Form year. So it’s the perfect size: large enough to offer a wide range of A Level subjects; small enough to ensure you’re known and supported as an individual. Lower and Upper Sixth are split into five forms of about 17 students, each with its own Tutor.

More than anything, Withington Sixth Form life is about feeling part of a warm and inclusive community – where someone always has your back.

Most students take three subjects (a minority take four) and the typical timetable includes ‘free’ periods so that you can decide when and how to study. Plus, there’s the opportunity to undertake an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) during Year 12.

Meanwhile, our super-varied enrichment programme ranges from financial literacy to knitting, sustainability and design, fitness and Zumba. And our bespoke PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) programme allows you to explore relevant issues. We also actively encourage you to interact with younger pupils, take on responsibilities at our many clubs and societies, and volunteer for the benefit of your local community.
