The Gambia
An annual one-week trip to The Gambia has been offered to Upper Sixth girls since 2004. Through kind donations from parents, outside sponsorship and the fundraising efforts of the 12 girls involved each year, we have so far built two nursery schools, a borehole, a women’s Literacy Centre, a community hall and a ‘bantaba’ in the village of Illiassa. In addition, we take donations of clothes and bedding to a clinic for malnourished babies. Much more information can be found in the Partnerships section of this website.
The girls who go on the trip paint and decorate the latest building for which they have fundraised, and also teach children and adults in small groups. There are also opportunities to explore the country more widely.
