Sixth Form Extra-Curricular Activities | Withington Girls' School, Manchester

Extra-Curricular

Our Sixth Form offers you the chance to explore your interests and passions to a much deeper level. This extends to extra-curricular activities. There are so many to choose from!

We believe that extra-curricular activities are key to a full and rounded education, contribute to physical and mental wellbeing and help our pupils to develop confidence and skills in creativity, communication, time management, leadership, critical thinking and resilience.

An extraordinary array of clubs and societies means there is something for everyone, from coding to garage band, photography to sign language and much more in between.

Activities such as Young Enterprise, Young Science Communicators and Mock Trial are exclusive to Sixth Form. As are positions of responsibility. There are countless opportunities for you in the Sixth Form to lead, shape and inspire school life.

Sports and Fitness

Withington’s sports and fitness clubs encourage a healthy lifestyle and life-long love of physical activity. There is something to inspire everyone, whether their interest is in performance sport, recreation or physical wellbeing.

Performing Arts

In the performing arts, there is the opportunity to learn a fantastic range of musical instruments, as well as singing, with our excellent team of peripatetic music teachers. Students can join the school orchestra, instrumental ensembles and choir, and one of the school’s legendary performances, either on stage or supporting with costumes, sound and lighting.

Enrichment

Our super-varied enrichment programme ranges from financial literacy to knitting, sustainability and design, fitness and Zumba.

Every student participates in this alongside their taught A Level subjects. The enrichment programme contains core elements of PSHCE including how to Cook on a Budget, Careers, Financial Literacy, Breast Care Awareness, Relationships and a Preparation for Higher Education.

All Sixth Formers are expected to take part in some voluntary service.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to be popular in Sixth Form as students complete the Gold Award. Requiring the greatest level of commitment, this level of award enables students to strengthen and later demonstrate key employability skills, as well as bolster confidence and create lifelong memories of the challenges of the expeditions. After completing the Gold Award, students are invited to a celebration event at Buckingham Palace.

Day trips and residentials

Bringing the curriculum to life, trips may include field trips, theatre performances and art gallery or museum tours. Recent international trips include Florida, Costa Rica, Morocco and sports tours to South Africa and the US. Plus, there are careers-focused trips for Sixth Formers.

Our partnerships with organisations in the UK and overseas give students the opportunity to volunteer and contribute to their local, national and international communities.
