Drama

There is a thriving extra-curricular drama programme at Withington which extends and complements work undertaken within the curriculum.

The girls have the opportunity to get involved with extra-curricular activities ranging from Tech Club to LAMDA, as well as being able to take part in school productions each year, both here at Withington and at the local Manchester Grammar School.

Drama clubs and workshops are offered to various year groups and a full technical training programme, covering all aspects of theatre lighting, sound and show management, is offered to girls of all ages.

Occasionally Withington girls are invited to audition for productions at other schools, BBC radio drama or various casting agents.  Withington girls have recently successfully auditioned for a variety of companies including the National Youth Theatre, The Royal Exchange Theatre and The Contact Theatre.

The LAMDA Speech and Drama programme gives girls the opportunity to build confidence and communication skills as they work towards a graded acting examination and a showcase for parents in the Summer Term.

In our most recent whole-school musical, we blew away audiences with our fantastic production of Phantom of the Opera.  Those involved dedicated over 140 hours of their time to rehearsals and costume and set design. The result was a truly professional performance.
