Withington held its annual Model United Nations conference on Saturday 29th June, marking the end of what has been a triumphant year for WGS. We welcomed delegates from 18 different schools from across the North West for a day of debate on the theme of ‘Equity’.
Proceedings got off to an inspiring start with an address from our guest speaker Sarah Mangan, Consul General for Ireland in the North of England, who drew from her own experience as a diplomat to share the secrets behind successful negotiation.
Representatives from thirty delegations then began the serious business of debating the issues of the day in their assigned committees.
WiMUN XV provided many of our own Withington pupils with their first taste of Model United Nations as part of the Switzerland and Pakistan delegations, with many more Year 7 and Year 8 pupils making their MUN debut as Secretaries and Press.
The WiMUN committee did a superb job of running the conference efficiently and creating an atmosphere which allowed for the stimulating debate which is the hallmark of the best MUN events.
