The Spring term has been a stellar season of sport for Withington. From national finals, local tournaments and individual successes, there is lots to be proud of and to celebrate.
Withington’s netball teams played in four national championship finals in March, resulting in the addition of four pieces of silverware to a growing collection. Whilst in lacrosse, the Senior team were the U19 Division One runners up, marking Withington’s first ever final in this age group at this tournament.
In hockey, the U16 were the first to play in what would become a series of national finals. This followed a very successful season regionally after they became the North West champions in the Tier 3 Championship.
Under the leadership of Ms Johnson, Director of Sport and former Lioness, football is unsurprisingly flourishing at WGS. The U15 football team are through to the semi-final of the Greater Manchester Cup in which the U12s also reached the semi-final, and the U13s and U14s both played in the quarter-final.
In the Manchester seven-aside Inspire League, the Key Stage 3 team have finished the season unbeaten and top of the league.
We’re incredibly proud of our students and their sporting achievements. Their determination and dedication are palpable. Here’s now to a fun season of summer sport.
