Tale as old as time
For two nights in June, Withington’s Junior School captivated audiences with a retelling of the much-loved tale of Beauty and the Beast. And there was certainly nothing ‘small and provincial’ about it!
Our outgoing Year 6 pupils took on the lead roles with support from their younger peers singing and dancing. Double cast to enable more of Year 6 to take centre-stage, the shows captured the feelings of positive transformation as this group of girls prepare to embark upon their next chapter in progressing to Senior School.
As ever, the terrific work on stage was wonderfully complemented by stunning costumes, incredible props, charming illustrations and dazzling lights – quite literally, with sparkling pyrotechnics. Any iteration of Beauty and the Beast cannot be complete without an enchanted rose. And ours certainly did not disappoint. In fact, crowning the Arts Centre stage was a hand-crafted flower that lost its petals as the story unfolded.
The Junior School show is a true team effort with staff, and pupils, from across the school dedicating their time and talents to ensure the best possible experience for our Junior School pupils.
In her speech at the end of the shows, Ms Bridget Howard thanked all those involved and praised the girls’ efforts in delivering another spectacular production. Reflecting that this would be her last, she said:
“No where does shows quite like Withington!”
