English
English is central to all subjects. We therefore teach aspects such as reading, writing, study of word, sentence and text, but reinforce the girls’ learning in other subject areas. We are aware of the demands of the National Curriculum and the Literacy Strategy but go above and beyond those guidelines. We aim to create in our children a love of existing literature and a love of creating literature.
We put on plays and musicals; we enjoy a wide variety of texts, to be found within classroom resources and within the Junior and Senior Libraries; we read and write poetry. We organise regular visits to the theatre, invite poets, storywriters and theatre groups into school and constantly use the best of past and present literature to enthral and inspire our pupils.
