“Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed attending SHiNE Together. She found the learning material exciting and engaging. The staff clearly put her at ease, making her feel confident and happy to be at Withington. Since completing the programme she is keen to continue learning about, what was, a completely new subject for her. Thank you for providing her with this fantastic opportunity.”
Our exciting musical partnership, Manchester Sings, brings together hundreds of children from our region to celebrate music and recognise the power of community.
Director of Music, Gilly Sargent works with 7 primary schools from across Greater Manchester to support the development of their school choir.
Alongside Withington’s choir and musicians, the children come together after weeks of rehearsals to perform at Manchester Cathedral – the first time they all perform together.
This festival of song also raises money for the Booth Centre and Wood Street Mission, with whom we enjoy long-standing relationships.
From ‘flash bang’ chemistry to magical, Harry Potter inspired wizardry, our Science Communicators inspire younger audiences through the delivery of exciting science shows and activities.
Run by our Sixth Form scientists for our primary and secondary school partners, all involved gain valuable communication and personal skills, as well as improving their subject knowledge.
Our Latin department has a long-running partnership with Mauldeth Road Primary School, a local maintained primary school. Withington Sixth Form pupils deliver Latin lessons in a fun and entertaining way to Year 5 pupils over a nine week period. These lessons introduce Year 5 children to vocabulary, grammar and mythological stories and it’s rewarding to see how our Sixth Formers develop their natural teaching skills over the weeks.
The aim of equipping young women with ‘soft skills’ in order to succeed and flourish in their future lives and careers brought Manchester Academy and Withington Girls’ School together to establish Future Focus – a series of conferences to inspire young women with confidence, develop self-esteem and improve mental health.
Our Year 4 pupils take part in a Schools Linking programme with St Mary’s C of E Primary School in Reddish. Pupils from both schools explore identity and belonging in creative and participatory ways. The first exchange being the sending and receiving of identity maps with an opportunity to all meet together later in the year.
