International Partnerships

WithGambia

Our Gambia programme has developed over the last 20 years. The aim is to advance educational opportunities in remote rural locations.

Over this time, we have established a strong partnership with the Mama Tamba Nursery School in Illiasa, a small village in inland Gambia. Here we are guided by local contacts, who work with village elders, assess local needs and advise how we can help.

Through a dedicated fundraising programme and annual trip offered to Year 12 pupils, we have:

  • funded and enabled the establishment of nursery and infant schools
  • established a women’s literacy centre
  • provided funding for a borehole
  • facilitated the building of a new classroom and provided ongoing support and maintenance
  • helped towards teachers’ salaries
“Our 20-year partnership with Withington Girls’ School has formed a true bond. Together we have transformed opportunities for many young children, from childhood to adulthood, with some of the first enrolled children now pursuing their studies at university. I look forward to seeing what the next 20 years brings!”

German E-Friends

Hallo, wie geht es dir? Partnering with Winsen Gymnasium (close to Hamburg), our E-Friend scheme sees pupils from Year 9 upwards matched with a German pupil. From initial exchange of emails to a chance to spend time with their E-Friend during a trip to Germany, this programme gives pupils a chance to practice German in a fun and friendly environment.
