Children’s Summer Camps at Withington

There are two weeks of children’s activities in the Summer holidays of 2017

All activities are open to boys and girls

Each activity begins at 9.30am and ends at 3.30pm with an option for early drop off at 08.30am and late pick up at 4.30pm. Early drop-off and late pick-up can be booked in advance, or arranged as you go along.

Children will need to bring a packed lunch.

Week 1

Sports Camp – 5 days – 31st July to  4th August

Creative Writing – 3 days – 31st July to 2nd August *more places now added, so it’s not too late to book!*

Week 2

Sports Camp – 5 days – 7th to 11th August

Film Animation – 5 days – 7th to 11th August  *This activity is now full*

Art Workshops – 3 days – 9th to 11th August

Sports Camps

For boys and girls aged 6 to 14
31st July  – 4th August and 7th – 11th August

The focus will be on developing skills in a variety of sports whilst having fun, for example, Hockey, Tennis, Rounders, Volleyball, Netball and Table Tennis. There will also be short sessions of quiet time to break up the day.

The Sports Camps will be led by Alderley Edge Ladies 1st team Hockey player, Sophie Hetherington, who will be joining the Withington PE staff in September.

  • Open to boys and girls aged 6 to 14
  • Cost is £100 for a full week, or £22.50 per day for the first child and £95 per week and £21.50 per day for subsequent siblings.
  • Children will need to bring a packed lunch
  • Parents may ‘pick and mix’ days and weeks as required
  • 9.30am -3.30pm
  • Early drop-off and late pick-up available (8.30am and 4.30pm) at a cost of £3 per session.

Creative Writing

Open to boys & girls aged 8-14

Led by the Head of English, Ms Christine Davies & Deputy Head, Ms Jen Baylis.

People, Stories and Voices … If you enjoy word games and fun language activities and you want some inspirational ideas to help with your creative writing, this could be the course for you!

This three-day creative writing course for children and young people from 8 – 14 will focus on how characters and ‘voices’ are created in stories and poems. The course will run over three days and will culminate in a reading of our work for family and friends on Wednesday afternoon. We will also produce an anthology of poems and stories for all participants
to take away at the end of the course.

Film Animation

7th – 11th August 2017 9:30am-3:30pm
Open to boys & girls aged 8-16

Organised by the WGS Drama Department
This workshop offers five days of exciting creativity. Create your own stop motion animated short film using a wide range of art materials & resources creating your own puppets, models, and sets. Learn to animate using iPad apps such as Stop Motion Studio Pro & iMovie. Children will work in groups of around three to create their own short films and screen them in front of a public audience at the end of the project!

• 5-day animation workshop for boys and girls aged 8 – 16
• Price: £150

Art and Crafts workshops

9th, 10th & 11th August, 9.30am-3.30pm
Open to boys & girls aged 7-14

Organised by the WGS Art Department

This short-course Art Camp will offer three days of fun creative activities catering for all abilities. The workshops will be held in the Art Studio and each child will get the opportunity to experiment with a variety of exciting materials producing paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and craft pieces to take home. We will present the artwork in a small exhibition to celebrate each child’s achievements on the Friday afternoon.

• 3 days of creative fun, experimenting & exploring with lots of exciting materials!
