The School offers an outstanding catering provision for all its pupils and staff. The team is led by a highly experienced Catering Manager, Mrs Sheena Cartledge, who is supported by a Senior Chef, a Pastry Chef and a team of 13 Assistant Cooks and Catering Assistants.
Mr Pheasey, an extremely accomplished chef, produces delicious homemade soups on a daily basis and, with his team, the four savoury courses of the day. Our Patissier, who trained in Alsace, is responsible for producing delicious homemade cakes for break-time and a variety of homemade breads and desserts for lunch.
From March 2011 the School catering provision was significantly enhanced offering pupils a much wider range of choice at break and lunchtimes. The key objective has been to allow each girl to be able to select a healthy diet based on her tastes and cultural needs.
All ingredients are fresh and, as much as possible, sourced locally. Lunch menus rotate on a fortnightly basis and all items are clearly marked as to whether they are vegetarian, halal etc. On any given day you’re likely to find a pupil eating a chickpea, spinach and sweet potato korma sitting next to someone eating pork and sage meatballs with rigatoni pasta, next to another munching on a tuna kebab.
The girls themselves report not only are they are spending longer eating their lunches and that there is a more social ambience, but that they are trying a whole range of new foods as well. The reason given almost universally by the girls themselves is that “it all looks and tastes amazing!”
Headmistress, Mrs Sue Marks said: “There’s a great deal of research to show that good nutrition has an immense impact on the quality of children’s learning; eating healthily at lunch helps to keep the girls’ minds sharp and ready to learn all afternoon.”

All food prepared at Withington Girls’ School is prepared in a kitchen where gluten and other allergens are present, and our menu descriptions do not include all ingredients.
