History & Founders

Their vision for Withington Girls’ School was that: 

• the school remained small, to encourage the individual development of each girl   
• all girls should be taught the Natural Sciences 
• there should be more physical exercise and practical work than was usual for girls’ schools 

Come and visit us today and you will see that whilst, we have of course grown and developed since then, you will still recognise these founding principles in our school. 

We remain a leader in girls’ education where each girl is known and nurtured.  Where pupils receive outstanding teaching in the sciences, humanities and the arts.  And where girls excel in sport, music and drama alongside a huge range of extra-curricular activities.
