History & Founders | Withington Girls' School

History & Founders

In 1890, opportunities for girls’ education were extremely limitedA group of far-sighted Manchester families wanted to change this to provide the same opportunities for their daughters as there were for their sons.

Their vision for Withington Girls’ School was that:

Come and visit us today and you will see that whilst, we have of course grown and developed since then, you will still recognise these founding principles in our school.

We remain a leader in girls’ education where each girl is known and nurtured.  Where pupils receive outstanding teaching in the sciences, humanities and the arts.  And where girls excel in sport, music and drama alongside a huge range of extra-curricular activities.
