Faraday Challenge Day

Withington pupils were joined by teams from Trinity Church of England High School, Whalley Range High School, Sale Grammar School and Cheadle Hulme High School to take part in the IET’s Faraday Challenge. This year, there will be a total of 210 IET Faraday Challenge Days taking place between September 2019 and June 2020 in schools, Academic Partner Universities and partner organisations across the United Kingdom. Each IET Faraday Challenge Day involves six school teams, each made up of six 12-13-year olds.

The teams must solve a real-life engineering project thinking about cost and design, then present their ideas to the judges. Competition was fierce throughout the day and the standard of work was high – we can’t say too much about the challenge as the competition is still running. What we can say is all the pupils had a fantastic experience thanks to Mick the challenge leader and what better way to inspire young engineers on The Royal Academy of Engineering’s (RAEng) ‘This is Engineering Day’!

Very well done to the Withington team comprising of Arabella, Haidal, Sama, Satu, Uma and Esme who were overall winners.
