Metamorphosis: The WGS Art Exhibition of 2019

Metamorphosis was the title of this year’s GCSE and A-Level art exhibition in which parents and friends were invited to come and celebrate the wonderful achievements of our Year 11 and Year 13 artists over the last two years. Once again, the WGS Hub provided the perfect exhibition space in which to showcase the girls’ amazing art, affording so much space to enable viewers to stand back – or get up close to – the remarkable collection of art before them.

Each year, the Year 13 group chooses a title to reflect their own experience and, this year, they chose Metamorphosis as they felt it encapsulated their exciting and often unexpected creative journey throughout their time studying Art in the Sixth Form.

Head of Art Mrs Ruth Fildes, said of this year’s Art A-Level group: “Each of the girls has flourished into the most creative and individual young artist, each with her very own artistic identity. Each has been confident to pursue her own ideas, passions and interests and this has resulted in a truly breath-taking array of artworks using a huge range of media and techniques. From stunning sculpture to printing, inspiring installation to embroidery, not to mention animation, film-making and, of course, stunning painting and drawing. This year’s Exhibition has it all!”

Mrs Fildes continued: “I would also like to congratulate our brilliant GCSE Art and Design students for their hard work and dedication, which truly is of a standard well beyond their years. No-one could disagree that their work is absolutely out of this world. I am inspired daily by the ideas, issues, and current affairs that the girls tackle through to their artwork.”
