Greater Manchester School Awards

WGS named as ‘School in the Community’ finalist

Withington is, and always has been, a school with its heart in the community, so we are delighted to have been chosen as one of four finalists for the ‘School in the Community Award’ in the Manchester Evening News Greater Manchester School Awards 2019.

Withington’s Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Haslam, said: “This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the efforts of each and every pupil and member of staff who has played a role in building our community partnerships, volunteering and fundraising. It’s an important part of our ethos and simply what we do.

“We are honoured to be among the finalists in such an important category, and we would like to congratulate all the other Greater Manchester school finalists on their achievement.”

All finalists will attend a celebration lunch and awards ceremony on Friday 5th July at which the overall winners will be announced.

More can be read about Withington’s Community involvement on the Schools Together website and on our own ‘In the Community’ page.

Several Chemistry FlashBang Shows for local primary School children are performed anually by WGS Sixth Formers.

Our annual Citizenship Day exemplifies team spirit, creativity and determination with the whole school involved in activities that make a difference to the lives of others through a 10-mile sponsored walk for The Christie and sharing artistic and musical talents in performances and a tea party for Senior Citizens as well as painting murals in the playground of a nearby primary school.
