Matt Goodfellow Poetry Workshops

On Friday, 26th April, the Juniors were thrilled to host local poet Matt Goodfellow. He started the day with a wonderful, energetic performance to the whole school, describing how he gets ideas for his poems and demonstrating how they should be performed. The girls thoroughly enjoyed watching and being part of this interactive performance and the teaching staff were delighted to see their pupils respond so enthusiastically as Matt brought the world of poetry to life in the Junior Hall.

Later, Matt conducted performance workshops with Years 3 and 4, and their fantastic recitals could be heard down the corridors of the School. The Year 5 classes were treated to a writing workshop, which included invaluable pieces of advice such as how different accents affect the way in which a poem is read and the rhythm is counted. These sessions most definitely inspired many budding poets!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this exciting and inspiring day.

This visit was facilitated through Simply Books in Bramhall. Matt is a National Poetry Day Ambassador and his latest book is entitled Chicken on a Roof.
