National Schools Netball Bronze Medallists

Withington’s U16 netball team is the 3rd best in the country! The team took part in the England Netball National Schools Finals at Stanborough School in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire on 16th March. Nine different English regions were represented; with two schools from each, there were 18 schools in each age group, divided into two leagues of nine teams. Our Withington girls won seven and drew one match in their league, finishing at the top of their group, qualifying them for the semi-final. In the semi-final, Withington just missed reaching the final by the agonising margin of only one goal, up against the other North West School in the competition – Parrenthorn High School, Bury, who were the eventual winners. Our girls then played for the Bronze medal position vs King’s School Worcester in which they pulled off an amazing 14-7 win. A great result for WGS! And also a great achievement for North West netball, getting two teams in the top three!

As the England Netball programme stated – each school and their coaches should be proud to know that, before even starting: “You should be very proud to say that you are one of the best 18 schools in the country for your age group. This is a great achievement that no one can take away from you, no matter how results unfold today”.
