Edinburgh Alumnae Reunion

The Development Office played host to Withington Alumnae in Edinburgh last week, with a reunion at the Sheraton Hotel’s One Square Bar. The Sheraton provided a comfortable setting for the day, with plenty of space for our guests to catch up over delicious refreshments, and share stories and memories of their time at Withington. Penny (Development Officer) revealed a new digital Archive database, which allows online access to old school photos and historic School Newsletters, whilst Toni (Development Director) discussed the exciting plans for the future of sport at Withington.

At every Withington reunion, we notice that there are always similar anecdotes from our Alumnae about the school’s culture and curriculum, no matter what decade they left the school. On this occasion, Lacrosse and Chemistry memories were what our guests had in common. The ‘Withingtonian Way’ was also in evidence throughout the event, with many exchanges of contact details and offers of support. Catherine Wilson said, ‘I often meet new university starters from Withington for lunch and I am happy to provide support for girls, especially those who are long way from home.’

We would like to thank everyone who attended our reunion in Edinburgh, especially those who traveled from places as far afield as Fife, Dundee, Glasgow and Penicuik.

In attendance were:

Jean Duncan Durbin nèe Creighton (1956)

Jean Stirling nèe Marsh (1956)

Susan Duncan nèe Grimshaw (1957)

Catherine Wilson nèe Meredith (1962)

Rosalind Thomson (1978)

Denise Thomson nèe Brown (1984)

Rachel Oliphant (1985)

Fiona McCulloch nèe Leitch (1996)

Ailsa Stott (1998)

Charlotte Kelham (2007)

Emily Goddard (2011)

The evening ended with a discussion of where to host the next Alumnae reunion in Scotland, St Andrews and Glasgow were naturally top of the list, but Catherine suggested a reunion in Dundee for the opening of the new V&A, which may be of interest?
