Ten Withington students celebrate Oxbridge offers
Ten Withington Upper Sixth Formers are celebrating news that they have been offered places to study at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge this year.
This means that one-in-seven WGS students from the current Upper Sixth cohort have successfully secured conditional offers, with five holding offers to study at Oxford and five for Cambridge.
Subject to achieving specified grades in their A-Level examinations, the five students destined for Oxford are: Charlotte Bream, PPE at New College; WGS Head Girl Emily Herbert, PPE at Lady Margaret Hall; Adi Jacobson, Physics at Christ Church; Maaham Saleem, Medicine at Magdalen College and Deshna Shah, Fine Art – also at Magdalen.
The five celebrating Cambridge offers are: WGS Deputy Head Girl Sitara Bartle, Classics at Newnham College; Sophie Beardall, Medicine at Corpus Christi; Isobel Griffiths, History at Christ’s College; Imogen McLean, Engineering at St John’s College and Kitty Rooney, Geography at Queens’ College.
Headmistress Mrs Haslam commented, “I congratulate our girls warmly on their offers to study at these two leading universities. The variety of subjects chosen for study demonstrates the diversity of interest amongst our students and the range of subjects across which Withington is able to offer first-class teaching, whether that be the Sciences, Humanities or Arts.”
As university offers continue to arrive for the School’s present Sixth Form, many Withington girls are delighted to have received offers from their first choice universities. As reported in the Daily Telegraph and recently reiterated by the Girls’ School Association, Withington is the only school in the North of England ranked in the top dozen nationwide for the percentage of pupils gaining entry to Russell Group universities.
“We have an excellent track record in supporting students through their university applications process and girls interested in joining Withington for Sixth Form are invited to contact us,” added Mrs Haslam.
