Senior Citizens’ Christmas Concert

It was wonderful to welcome so many special guests to Withington last night for our annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Concert and Tea Party. This event is one of the most rewarding in our School calendar, and many girls across the School  were involved in the preparation.

The whole Withington community worked together to stage the concert with various fundraising activities to raise money to pay for the party food and  a coach to collect our guests and bring them to Withington. Fundraising events included a ‘Bake Off’ competition, DVD sale for Juniors, Cookie Sale and Christmas Dodgeball Competition. Withington pupils and parents generously donated gifts, and there were even some left over to stage a raffle in aid of the Booth Centre, as well as to take further gifts to the Booth Centre later in the week.

The Sixth Form Committee did a wonderful job of organising the evening and pupils from other years helped by  wrapping the presents distributed to our guests and making Christmas decorations for the tables. There were many staff volunteers on hand too, who helped to make sandwiches and distributed tea, coffee and refreshments on the evening!

The concert, compèred and conducted by Director of Music Mrs Gilly Sargent included carols and sing-alongs as well as performances by the School’s orchestras, choirs and ensembles, not to mention some excellent singing from three male members of staff and many teaching and support staff playing in the orchestra alongside the girls.

Special thanks go to all the pupils and staff who helped on the night, as well as those in the Orchestra and Choir. As always, it was such a wonderful event enjoyed by guests and participants alike.

Mrs Sargent said: “It was a truly joyous evening and such a pleasure not only to see  our guests enjoy themselves so much, but to see the care, thought and effort our Withy girls put in to making it such a special evening.”
