Economic success

For the third year in a row, Withington Economists have won through the regional ICEAW competition to go on to represent the North West of England at the Chartered Accountants National Finals in Birmingham during the Summer term.

On 25th February, two teams of students travelled to Chester to compete in the heats for the BASE business and management competition. This is an interesting and testing competition in which students work as a team with a mentor to solve a challenging business problem. They develop a strategy and outline plans for a business proposal by analysing finance and marketing information. They also have to consider ethical issues and the social responsibility of business.

Both teams performed very well, giving convincing presentations and dealing with challenging questions from the judges. We are delighted that Team 1 won the heats, coming first out of 15 teams and will represent the School and our area in the two-day national finals to be held at a top Birmingham hotel in the Summer Term.
