The Gold Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition took place in July around Howgills in the Yorkshire Dales. A record 21 girls took part and all completed successfully.

The weather was mainly good, with sunburn and midges being two of the most testing factors. The Real Hikers of Cheshire led throughout but all groups were very fast and competent. The independent Assessor was most impressed with the entire group.
