Alumnae Buddy Scheme

Supporting WGS girls at University

The aim of the ‘Buddy’ Programme is for past Withington leavers to act as a friendly face for a new ‘old girl’ in their first year at university. As you may remember, this can be a rocky time full of new experiences and new friends and as a seasoned student, we think you will be able to provide valuable advice and support.

As a ‘buddy’, we would like you to commit to the following:

1. Meet your Buddy in Freshers Week to act as a support if they need any help with getting started. This may involve acquainting them with University/ College facilities such as the Library, Student Union, Administration Office and social and leisure facilities.

2. Meet in person with your Buddy at least once per semester / term in the first year to make sure they are settling in.

3. Help your Buddy identify Societies and Clubs of interest.

4. Provide your Buddy with your email address or phone number so that she can contact you with any further questions.

The aim is for you both to discover a relationship which works best for you.

If you are interested in the scheme either has a new student in need of a ‘buddy’ or a current university alumnae who would like to volunteer as a ‘buddy,’ please contact Penny Knipe in the Development Office at School, on 0161 249 3494, or at knipep@withington.manchester.sch.uk.
