Gambia Sponsored Climb

On Sunday 16th June, the twelve girls from the 2013 Gambia expedition team successfully completed a sponsored climb at Rope Race in Marple. The aim was to climb 2.5 km (the width of MacCarthy island found in the middle of the Gambia River) between them. This was completed in plenty of time, giving the chance for some light-hearted races, some adventurous photography and the opportunity to try some of the harder climbing walls.

The fantastic day provided the opportunity to put the group's teamwork into action and to have a great time bonding. Valuable lessons in the safety and techniques behind rock climbing were also learnt thanks to the two enthusiastic volunteer instructors, Eddie and John, who gave up the day to help out. The event was a complete success, raising around £600, which will go directly to support the essential project work being done in The Gambia.
