On Thursday 27th June, four Lower Fifth Formers represented Withington at the annual Chemquiz held at Manchester Metropolitan University. First of all, the girls were tested on all parts of the Chemistry curriculum. They then watched a number of chemistry practical demonstrations which the girls said ‘were interesting and, in some cases, explosive!'

They were then required answer questions about the experiments they had watched. The final stage of the competition was a practical experiment in which the girls had to test the temperature rise of different masses of anhydrous sodium carbonate. They worked well together as a team and overall the WGS team achieved 8th place out of 36 schools.
