DofE Gold Practice Expedition
An unseasonal chill greeted Withington's 12-strong contingent taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Gold practice walk over three days and two nights in the Yorkshire Dales on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The girls, all from Year 12, began and ended their gruelling 60km trek at Horton in Ribblesdale, following a looping course via overnight camps at Stalling Busk and Foxup.

Temperatures dropped well below freezing at night and everyone was cold despite extra blankets and sleeping bags. There were a few aches and pains from carrying a heavy rucksack over rough terrain but all the girls proved themselves capable of meeting the challenge of the qualifying expedition at the start of the summer holidays.
