Joyful Junior Christmas

The Junior School Christmas Concert took place on Monday 13th December enchanting and entertaining the audience of family and friends in the Arts Centre.

Before interval there was festive musical programme with performances of Christmas music from the Junior Choir; the Junior String Ensemble led by Ms Rebecca Thompson; the Junior Flute Ensemble led by Ms Nikki Hunter; a very innovative percussion ensemble with four girls playing a complex piece on one drum kit; the Clarinet Choir made up of Junior and Senior pupils and a superb performance by the Junior Orchestra. One of the biggest hits of the night was the ‘world premiere' of the Transition Ukelele Band, which left the entire audience beaming with delight!

Throughout, the Junior girls were supported and encouraged by Senior School pupils. The audience also joined in with a rendition – with actions – of The Twelve Days of Christmas.

In the second half the whole Junior School performed a Christmas comedy musical, When Sasha got Sucked up the Chimney. The whole of Upper II provided orchestral backing while the younger Junior girls acted out the story containing an assortment of orphans, fairies and elves, some of whom were angelic and others who made very convincing ‘baddies'. There were also comical all-singing and dancing penguins and reindeer and, of course, Santa and Mrs Claus. The play was produced and directed by Mrs Lowe helped by all the Junior staff. The DT and Art Departments constructed an impressive array of props including a fireplace and the requisite sleigh.

Mrs Burrows said: "It really was an evening of Christmas magic and laughter and no-one could have failed to be impressed by the comic timing, acting ability and musicality of the entire company. Well done to everyone involved."

The Juniors also enjoyed an 'own clothes' and party day on Tuesday 14th December and on Wednesday went to The Lowry to see Peter Pan.
