Former Pupil wins Award
A broadcast of a choral arrangement composed by Withington's very own Sasha Johnson Manning [1981 Year Leaver] has won an illustrious award at a ceremony in London.
Sasha's composition The Manchester Carols, was set to words by Carol Ann Duffy in 2007, and the BBC later recorded a 2008 performance, which included a WGS choir amongst the performers, which was broadcast as BBC Radio 4's ‘Sunday Worship' on December 28th 2008. Last month, this broadcast won a Jerusalem Award for the Best Christmas Religious Broadcast. The award was received by Philip Billson, the Producer of the broadcast, at the Royal Society of Arts in London.
The music for The Manchester Carols is now published by Faber, and a disk of the recording is distributed by Naxos.
Sasha continues to be very busy composing, performing and directing choirs. The extended Withington community are incredibly proud of Sasha's achievements, yet another example of a Withington Alumna blazing a trail in her chosen field.
