Our Weekend Away at Abernant Lake Hotel

Reports by members of Upper II

On the June 5th, Lower II and Upper II went on a weekend away to the Abernant Lake Hotel in South Wales. The minute we saw the elegant Edwardian Country House Hotel with stunning views over an untamed Welsh landscape we knew we were going to have a great time. The weekend was jam-packed with fun, exciting activities such as rifle shooting, climbing, a mini Olympic tournament and an obstacle course. Rifle shooting was excellent and the instructor wouldn’t let us shoot until everyone in the room had their goggles on. Miss Ross and Miss Hyde had a competition to see who was the best.

There was a mini Olympic tournament which was great fun. For the first part of the session we had to run a course with a wellington boot on our arm, a jacket flung over our shoulder, a helmet on, a ball between our knees, spin round five times and then drop all of the items in the order we picked them up!   The overnight camp for Upper II didn’t turn out the way we expected because of the rain.  We ended up going inside to learn ways of putting up different types of tents. We also learnt how to cook food and finished off by singing campfire songs and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. Yummy!

The highlight of the trip had to be the water sports; raft building for Upper II and kayaking/canoeing for Lower II. What hilarious fun.  It certainly was wet, wet and more wet! When it came time to leave we couldn’t believe that we had only been there for two nights. It was an amazing experience and a wonderful weekend.
