A visit from the Police

On Monday June 15th, in the first of a series of visits intended to inform all pupils about personal safety and raise awareness of crime prevention issues, our WGS Neighbourhood Police Officer, PC Mike Dixon visited the Junior School along with a team of Community Liaison Officers and two Police horses and Officers from the local Mounted Division.

The girls had a chance to try on different types of Police protection uniform and learnt how the Police work to keep us safe. The horses were a great hit with the girls, who got the chance to feed and make a fuss of them.

The Officers demonstrated how the horses were used for crowd control, but also how very gentle they are when stroked and fed apples! The Junior pupils were absolutely delighted to have the chance to get so close to the horses and were fascinated by what they learnt about the work of the Police Force.

A member of Upper II said: "We learnt a lot about the different kinds of police work but the Officers did it in a fun way and made us laugh as well as think about keeping safe."
