New Sixth Form Block

Pupils returned after the February half-term holiday to find their School about 20% bigger than when they left it the week before. In keeping with the stipulation of our founders, Withington will always remain small in terms of numbers of pupils, but now the space and facilities are better than they have ever been.

The new wing incorporates a ground floor Sixth Form Common Room, with twice the area of the old facility, and includes a bistro exclusively for Sixth Formers. The first floor provides six new classrooms, a seminar room and offices for teaching staff. The new building has also enabled improvements to the Nurse's area, extension of the Drama Studio and the creation of a further classroom and tutorial room within the original School building.

It has been built to maximum energy-efficient standards and includes a system of passive ventilation provided by roof-mounted 'wind catchers'. The new building was handed over to the School on Friday 13th February by Ellenby Construction, two months ahead of schedule.
